I saw This Is England twice last year and loved it so much. I will admit that the thing with the much older Goth girl was a little unsettling (reminded me of Ratcatcher in that way), but as a whole, thought that it was a heartfelt account of the original skins.
yeah, i agree. i thought what was particularly remarkable about it was it built tension to an almost unbearable pitch then provided needed comic relief without interrupting the pace. and i think it was so successful in shocking because the violence, until the climax, is implied. as hitchcock said 'there's no fear in a bang, only in the anticipation of it'.
